The research of pedagogical techniques and methods of forming information and communication literacy among the 9th grade students in the Republic of Belarus.

During the time period of May 2017 through January 2018 in order to develop educational policy within the formation of IC literacy in the Republic of Belarus the research of pedagogical techniques and methods of forming information and communication literacy among the 9th grade students has been conducted.

The Head of the project is Ksenia Tarasova.

The realization of the research in the Republic of Belarus included:

  • Development of methods that would improve IC literacy;
  • Implementation of these methods into the academic process in schools;
  • Conduction of the research regarding IC literacy in schools of various types in the Republic of Belarus;
  • Definition of the most effective methods that improved IC literacy the most;
  • Development of the general suggestions with the examples of the pedagogical practices that allow to improve the level of IC literacy and provide with the new academic effect within educational institutions in the Republic of Belarus.

In order to accomplish the tasks, the IC literacy measuring tool - IC Literacy Test has been used. This test has been successfully used and fully adapted to the local educational system earlier in 2013 in the Republic of Belarus. The data received allowed to conclude that the level of IC literacy has been dependent on the activities the students perform, rather than on the frequency and duration of the computer usage.

In this regard, within the framework of this project, taking into account the data obtained earlier on the study of the IC literacy of students in the Republic of Belarus, it was possible to reach a new level and determine what specific practices used in the schools of the republic affect the formation and growth of the IC literacy of students. It has also enabled us to develop general recommendations, which subsequently will help to improve the level of IC literacy and provide a qualitatively new educational effect in solving the problem of the formation of IC literacy in educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus.
